Like most kit junkies I am continually playing with, updating, upgrading and refining my kit

I had my wild camping set up pretty much nailed. I carry a MSR Titan Kettle inside a homemade pot cosy. Nested in that is my bushbuddy and inside that are some cotton wool Vaseline fire starters and my pop can meths stove. I carry a meths bottle and cup separately

Recently I've been doing some dog walks in fields near home. They're very quiet and the view is good so I sit down and have a brew

I've used the wild camping set up above as well as gas stoves (Primus Micron Ti and Jetboil), but I wanted something a little more compact and multi functional for my daypack

This is what I've ended up with. First of all my cook set.

I really like things to be able to nest, it just makes sense in your pack. I've since changed the stuff sack it sits in, will get another pic up to show that

My water bottle is a Camelbak Better Bottle with a Humangear Capcap. This fits perfectly in my Snow Peak 450, like its made to measure

The Snow Peak 450 is in a homemade cosy and nested in a Snowpeak 700 (whose lid is at the bottom of the stuff sack under yhr pot when being put away but is on the right of the pic). My cup has an ally lid I nicked from an unused glass pasta pot, this is in the 700 but under the cosy and inverted so the cup sits inside

For those that use 1l Nalgenes the Snow Peak 700 sits round one of those perfectly.
The very observant amongst you might spot a mod to the SP700 mod. It's to let me hang it over the fire, I can add a carabinered picture wire bail to it

Now my stove. Here it is with a meths bottle and some esbit/solid fuel

The first thing you can see inside the pouch above is my Vaseline stove

The lid is my esbit burner. The bottom is my meths burner. This was made with mesh from a frying splatter guard and insulation from a forge very kindly sent by a member on here. Lots of functionality in a very small package

Next up in the pouch is a Pocket Stove Ti

Both parts assembled. The Vaseline stove is in meths mode here, the lid is inverted and placed underneath to raise it up a bit

In the pouch I also keep a bit of thick foil from some ciabatta bread warm in the oven stuff which acts as my windscreen. I don't always use this. I also keep another piece of thin folded as its useful stuff. Here everything set up

My cup does fit on the Ti stove as well, and I've used it a lot like this, but the bigger pot is more stable and means I can eat supernoodles in my cup whilst more water is boiling for coffee, in my case Starbucks Via

Here's the whole kit. Esbit also fits in the pouch but I prefer it separate, and obviously I only need meths or esbit, not both

I really like this set up. It's compact, light, easy to use and let's me use meths, esbit or wood. My daypack for my dog walks is a Maxpedition Condor II. The nested bottle/cook pot set fits in the main comparment and stove and fuel goes in the main compartment but inside the internal divider.

One of my favourite spots, where I use this set up a lot

Here are the weights of the set up

Pocket stove with foil windscreen and alpkit sack 80g
Vaseline meths burner 20g
Snow peak 700 with lid and hanging mod 152g
Wire bail with clips 9g
Snow peak 450 67g

I've never timed it. I'm sure it's not as efficient as the pressurised meths stoves, but the reason I like it is because its simple, reliable and most importantly compact. I'd probably test it with meths weights and burn times if i was planning a multi night walking trip any time soon though

I've found the windscreen to be fine. On still days I don't use it, and in the woods you'd be that bit more protected. A curved windscreen like on my normal wild camping set up would probably work slightly better, but this one folds up with the stove in the pouch. I haven't had a problem with it so far. In fact this was my prototype one, but its worked so well I haven't had to do the proper one yet!
