My first go at figure carving

Evening all, I was gifted a copy of the book "carving the little guys" last Christmas and after a lot of false starts (and no small amount of laziness on my part) I finally got round to finishing a few of these this weekend.

They are no works of art but I kind of like the rustic appearance and am fairly pleased with the results.
It's also the first time I have painted any of my carvings and it amazed me what a difference a few simple colours have made to an otherwise dull and lifeless form.

Pay special attention to the handsome fella on the right, modelled off of yours truly! 😀

Hi Hamster
Great first attempts if you want something as a next step have a look at
Whittling Litte Folk by Harley Refsal or any one listed in the Caricature Carvers of America

Once you get into this style of carving who knows where it will end

But it all starts with what your doing good luck happy carving

Jeez that's some impressive work there, puts my little guys to shame! 😊

I really enjoyed carving them and can see how I will improve with "lots" of practice but I really struggled with the arms for some reason.

Have you had a look at Gene Messer on the tube yet? He has some great vids on Flat Plane carving and thousands of em too. Harley Refsal's the boss for me but Gene is great too. Im three months into F.P.C. myself but making decent progress. Keep at it. It's the only way to learn. Good on you for making a start! ATB. Pete. PS "Sharonmyart" does a great series on carving the miniature figure.
