I've read the 'original' too - Piers Paul Read which was good but he wasn't there and it was written from interviews with the survivors. Still it was a good book though, but this one in my opinion is even better. Some very sad moments and how that guy (Nando Parrado the Author) managed to pull himself together after losing his mother in the crash and his sister dying in his arms, then finding the strength of will to hike across the barrier of the Andes with no proper kit and no experience whatsoever is incredible  A truly amazing account of the strength of the human spirit which sounds like a cliche but in this case is 100% justified. A fantastic book.
