The trouble is that people distill the product of basic brewing but don't know that it is critical to control the temperature and only to take off the distillate within a very specific temperature range. Outside of that range you may get methanol or a variety of other substances, none of which will do you any good if you drink them. Meths as a fuel is fine, just don't drink it or wash in it.
