Minotaur, I don't know for sure about that name, but it could be something that was developed in the Birmingham, Alabama area. There was also a tool company there by that name: Birmingham Axe and Toole Company (later Moore and Handley Hardware Company). That could have something to do with it. In google books an old book referred to the Birmingham axe felling trees. Wish I could tell you more.
