Guess everything moved to self heating rations.

Did see a Russian MRE, and they had matches sealed in blister pack.

I had a few I'd picked up when restaurants used to have them on the tables for smokers, they had been in my "stock" for a few years, when I went to try them they simply crumbled apart and were totally useless. Maybe the rat-pack ones are better quality?

I don't know about in the UK, but you can still get match books here in Canada. Most convenience stores will give them to you for free (especially if you are buying cigarettes).
Perhaps just ask at your local corner grocer or smoke shop.

If i go in my tobacconist there is a 100% guarentee that i will not be coming out with only a book of matches
