Here I am at the Herbarium in Leiden wondering just the other day if
the Kew one was ever open to the public and, as if by magic, yes it
is - this weekend.
London Open House (Sat 15 and Sun 16 September)
"The theme of this year's exhibition in Kew's Library and Herbarium
will be Cinchona and quinine, marking the bicentenary of the eminent
quininologist John Eliot Howard (1807-1883). We will be showing a
small but choice range of books, manuscripts, 19th century photographs
and botanical specimens.
Open House is free and no booking is needed. The buildings are open
10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday (last entry 3pm), details:
http://www.londonopenhouse.org/london/find/ (search on Kew)"
Travel details etc.:
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew TW9 3AE
Tube: Kew Gardens
Rail: Kew Bridge
Bus: 65,391.
Entry: Hunter House via Herbarium entrance gate.
NB. Staff available to talk about collections and purpose of the
building.
Factsheet on the Herbarium, Library, Art and Archives, Kew building:

I'm hoping to go on Sunday and then nip back home to watch episode one of
Wild Food which is being repeated on BBC2 at 7pm.
