Archaeology first...

The past from above
http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/thepastfromabove/
"See over 100 of the world's greatest historic locations in the heart
of London. Captured over 40 years, the aerial photography of Swiss
photographer Georg Gerster will take visitors on a tour of five continents.

Over 100 sites including the ancient cities of Babylon (in modern-day
Iraq), Leptis Magna (in Libya) and Teotihuacan (in Mexico), will be
explored in this exhibition. Objects from the Museum's permanent
collection will feature alongside Gerster's photographs to provide
an added insight into the people behind these extraordinary locations.

As well as focusing on the wonders of these archaeological sites,
the exhibition also serves as a reminder of the fragility of many of
these important locations and that positive action is required to
preserve our common cultural heritage. This is your chance to view
the world from a truly different perspective."

This exhibition is running from now until 11 February 2007 but on
Friday 2nd February (this Friday) you can combine viewing this
with a few snifters of beers of the world.

Beers and archaeology...

(fourth event down, in the listings)
"Come to the British Museum for a refreshingly different evening of beer
tasting. Sample beers from around the world, learn about ancient brewing,
listen to live music and tour the exhibition, The Past from Above, with its
curators, Lesley Fitton and Sam Moorhead.

£15 for beer tasting, booking required, including entrance to the exhibition."

Programme of events
http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/thepastfromabove/beersoftheworld.doc

"Those with a ticket to the beer tasting will be able to drop into the informal
session run by the Beer Academy throughout the evening. Alongside this in
the Great Court there will be a bar selling some of the beers being sampled
in the tasting. During the evening there will also be talks in The Past from
Above exhibition as well as live music; a ticket is not required for these."

For anyone who, like me, can't make the event this particular Friday the
exhibition is running until 11 Feb 2007. There's also an accompanying book.

Managed to sneak in for the last hour. Although we didn't get to see the photos
I got to try some emmer wheat (fiddly to get at the edible bit) and try a Windhoek
beer from Namibia which was very nice. We're going back to see the pictures
though.

Has anyone else been to this exhibition?
