A while back I posted a thread on living bridges and in it mentionedthat steel bridges are is no match for longevity and strength in tropical climates.

I've just heard what happened in recent monsoonal floods. No living bridges or Kanekes built bamboo bridges down but twenty two steel wire and concrete bridges have collapsed all over the same area

That said who would you expect better quality work from a tribesman whose kids and grandchildren are going to use the bridge or an Indonesian Government contractor ?
