If I wanted to make a sheath for my Bahco hatchet, what sort of leather should I look for, and what thickness? Also, is it better to use rivets or stitch it together?

3 mm veg tanned would be best. something like this would be OK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SADDLE-TA...UK_Crafts_Leathercraft_LE&hash=item2ec4598537 or this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DARK-BROW...s_Leathercraft_LE&hash=item2ebf788339........ this shop often has interesting small pieces for making sheaths with as well....http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Leather-and-Stuff-UK?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
If you would prefer undyed leather there is quite a good choice on ePrey too. Just be sure to get full grain & not split leather.

I would prefer stitching but rivets would work just as well.

Thanks - will have a look. I'll also look at the bits for stitching and rivetting.
