I'm about to embark on my first leather adventure, and I was wondering whether I can make some leather strips from veg tanned sheets? I want to use leather stitching. What do others do, use ?

I use the Tandy tool to make leather strips for braiding. Decorated my hat with stuff done this way:

As mountainm implies though, it did take a bit of getting used to. Once you fathom out how to get the braid started it works a treat and is a great way to use up offcuts - you can get a couple of metres of braid easily from a 4" square piece.

There is a video on how to use it here:

Useful info guys, thanks. I reckon something could be fashioned from a wooden marking gauge? Swap out the metal pin for a small blade .. Hmmmm

I have the tandy one and it takes getting used to. easiest on thick leather.

No old belt is safe around me!
