King Alfreds cakes on Maple?

Found this big boy on a long dead Maple at the end of the garden. about 3" top to bottom. I've only seen them on Ash before, hence the question. looks like it has blown it's spores, judging by the sooty look around it.

According to Philips there are 7 species of Daldinia in Britain and only D. concentrica is 'almost exclusively on ash'; the others are normally on other hosts.

Thanks for the Info. I'll wait to see if any more sprout, before I add it to my fire kit.
