According to the “Big Sky” forecast it looks like very damp knees for those attending Fenlander’s Fungi Foray this Sunday. That needn’t mean that your all-important Field Guide or ID Charts must go the same way. I stumbled across this fine bit of kit when looking for cloth camo tape and I’ve even tested the makers claim that they are “100% waterproof” by chucking it in the bath.

Just a thought for all you kit junkies – myself included.

Ugh. Yes, wet paper, wet maps, and wet journals are absolutely terrible when you're in the bush. I usually try and keep a journal when I'm out there, and I usually use a Rite in the Rain thread bound notebook.. They're absolutely amazing, and I've never once had soggy notes. The only drawback is that they're incredibly pricey, I spend about $30-$35 dollars on one. Still, it's worth it for keeping your notes dry.

As for maps, well Nikwax has a great little product. that keeps your maps waterproof. Of course, if you're not willing to spend copious amounts of money, then a simple zip-loc bag will do. Just fold your map so the section you're travelling on is at the front, shove it in the bag and voila.

Cheers,

Adam
