Heads up for those karrimor firesteels now on sale again at Field & Trek at £2.99.
I got half a dozen for our Scouts today.They are big rods and come with a striker on a lanyard.
Excellent value imho.

Yep god value just check the handles are fixed properly I reset mine with Gorilla glue

My mini review would be The steels themselves are fine The handles are often not properly fixed on and the striker while adequate is not great I just removed the striker
I have not checked the prices but I think these would make for great re-handling projects in fact that was my first positive thought when the handle came off

I bought the same ones for my Scouts a while ago. The strikers don't last that long before snapping but the firesteels are fine.

Agree with you on the rehandling thought.Nice project for them for this winter.
The strikers we usually replace with a bit of hacksaw blade anyway as they are flimsy.
Even having said all that they are still amazing value.
