I've noticed this manufacturer on a few different websites, the quality seems good and the prices for their knives seem very reasonable, but i'd just like to know if anyone has any experience of them at all. I'm looking in particular at the Hunter 10cm knife. (some links ...).

When you pick one up they feel lighter in hand than their nordic peers. The handles are extremely well finished. Again, it's like picking up velvet cloth vs a worsted wool. The steel is very good, but then all the scandi steels are very good. The finish overall cosmetically is very nice vs the Jarvenpaas with a better factory edge. Bottom line, all the nordic knives are excellent values and you just go with the ones that pull on your wallet.

Hi George

I have a karesuando Vildmark that I use a lot. I actually prefer it for most things to the falkniven F1 thats my usual bushcraft knife. Obviously it's not as solid as the F1 and wont take the kind of beating that an F1 will but it's better IMO for food prep and carving and chores of that ilk.

It takes a very good edge and although I find myself stropping it quite often thats probably more cos I like having it like a razor rather than it really needing it.

The knife feels very light, like Chris says but the handle fits my hand well (medium size but wide hands) and the shape of the handle allows most carving grips to be used.

I reckon if you carry an axe for the heavier tasks then a karesuando will do all the rest no problem.

I quite fancy one of the Ravan specials as well

I ordered an "Elk Special" from Nordic Arts and it arrived direct from the factory in Sweden in about a week. The knife was nicely finished and pretty sharp but the blade was not absolutely central in the handle. It was a very minor fault and for the price I payed I realy wasn't bothered.

Hi George,

I have a Ptarmigan with a carbon steel blade. It came with a slight secondary bevel on the blade which I have removed. it seems to hold it's edge well, fits my hand nicely and looks nice as well :D

I bought mine from Nordic Arts, they were very helpful and it only took seven days to arrive from sweden.

Hope this helps

well you've all given me some great information, i think i'll save the penny's for one of them, but there's so many useful ones to choose from. I think i'll choose the hunter 10 cm, because its also a little sturdier, with a thicker blade width at 3.2mm

I also have an Elk Special. It's incredibly light and takes a scary sharp edge (after the secondary bevel was removed). I bought mine from Ragnar. It doesn't appear to be incredibly robust but then I might be surprised.
