North of the southern wall.
I bought a knife at a show yesterday, a Finish puukko type, it's sheath is a fancy shaped hardened cardboard affair, and on the blade is engraved some kind of initial I think then 'Kamppila Kauhava', the blade was quite rusty in areas, I've cleaned it off best I can. I'm just wondering how old it is and if it was designed for a male or female (I've read that different designs etc denoted such things??).

when the camera battery's charged up I'll bung some pics up.

does anyone know of a forum or an individual that may know more about the puukko?

Ruusuvuori has published the specifications of a quite similar puukko made by Lammi on pages 446 and 447 of his 2009 book Puukon historia. He dated it between years 1940 and 1948. As far as I have seen and read, cardboard sheaths were only manufactured by a few factories during and after the Second World War.

A puukko made for a woman (fi: emännän puukko) has no seperate handle, but the whole knife is made out of one piece of iron or steel.
