1. ITEM: Johan Engström Barrel Knife
2. CONDITION: Fantastic for its age
3. EXTRAS: n/a
4. LOCATION: West Yorkshire
5. PRICE: £165 (incl. insured delivery)
6. DESCRIPTION: Produced between 1874 to 1915, this is an exceptional knife for its age.
I've tried to capture as much as possible in the pics, with the minor nick in the blade being the only real flaw, and not worth sharpening out.
It's solid folded and almost no blade play when open, which is WAY more than can be said for many of these unique folders (I've owned a few - this is the last).
This knife is definitely fully 'restorable' if that's your thing. But I have only ever lightly cleaned this, as I enjoy the patina and history. The blade has been stropped and has that old steel keenness that I always contribute in my own mind to lost artistry and pre-A-bomb properties (I'm sure neither of which are quite true).
This seems quite hefty in hand (girth) and honestly that's a major contributing factor to me finally letting go of this grail item. I hope someone with shovel hands can enjoy it more (I'm a medium size 8 glove).
