A few weeks ago I visited a large surplus store in Ballynacorra, a village
about 3km south of Midleton Co. Cork.
The store is housed in a huge warehouse south of the village behind a tile supplier and is well sign posted.
It has just about every thing for the clothing, footwear, cargo-carrying and sleeping equipment needs of the bushcrafter.
I purchased a new 30l. Bundeswehr rucksack for e15 and a 3 quarter length Thermarest mat plus free Thermarest seat thingy for e30 (rrp e70). The Thermarest is marked 'irregular' which means a production overrun as opposed to a second. As Thermarests are made in Midleton these are widely available and cheap down here. The full length mats were selling for e40.
The store stocks Swedish mess kits, grade 1 goretex bivvy bags, several types
of British and continental rucksacks, both new and used, and a lot of other used clothing, boots, webbing
and field equipment of various grades.
Also stocked are tonnes of used tools and household bits'n'bobs.
As far as stock is concerned the staff don't know from day to day what the next delivery will contain.
It's definitely the best surplus store I've ever seen in Ireland by a mile.
Happy trails.......torc.
p.s. I have no connection in any way to this business.
