Not heard that before, why's that?

Well it would depend where you live as to to the condition at this time of the year but generally they get fat over the late summer into late autumn, once the temp falls below 6 to 7ºC grass stops growing, leaving them with recycled poo to eat. As they don't hibernate they have to eat all winter and food is scarce in winter. Where I live they can be fine into January sometimes February in a mild year, still holding a bit of fat. Over on the east where I have've done quite a bit of shooting they're done by end of December most years. Not a pick on them.
