Hi
can anybody give me an information on this knife, please?
I bought it between 1975 and 1985 and it may have been second hand then.

On one side of the blade it has '1897' and Malcberry England; on the other side truelove hand forged.

I've put two pictures in the edged tool gallery because I've started this and realised that I don't know how to post pictures with the text.

Cheers

thanks for that Martyn.
I tried google but never got that?
Leastways I now know it will graeloch deer - whatever that is - sounds unpleasant though, and I'd have thought it too thick and heavy for gutting fish.

I have a knife by the same maker of a very similar design. There was an etch on the blade that said "Chris Turelove, Sheffield". I bought it in 1980 or 1981 from Sheffield Scene in Sheffield. I'll see if I can find my knife and put it on this thread.

The google link points to a description which says...

Truelove, hand-forged with 1897 steel blade. Malcberry, England. Brass hilt, staghorn handle, brass rivets.

Looks like Chris Truelove is the maker.

Does anybody know anything about Chris Truelove? Also, why 1897? Is it a significant year for something or is it not a year at all?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Chris Truelove of sheffeild made these knives for Malcberry in the late 1970's/1980's. 1897 was the model name. Thus called as it was made from a stock of steel they held forged/crucibled in 1897 and therefore a limited edition. I knew a 'Keith Hawes' who worked for the company in the 70/80's in Beckenham. Lost touch, be good to here from him.
