i thought animals were scared of fire

there was mice/voles/shrews duno what they were making noises around my tent last night when the fire was burning, even the side of the tent where the fire was burning close. one was at the open door step. so are they not scared of fire?

When we were camping in Joshua Tree there were a couple of kangaroo rats living in the rocks nearby. They used to come around the campfire at night looking for bits of food and free beer.

my dog is terrified of fire, she wont even venture close. even when the bbq is going she will only nip out of the house to try and pinch a few bits of food then she is straight back in. :bluThinki
