Hunting Offer!

I'm about to take my hunting license in the beginning of the new year. ):
One of my dad's friends found out and offered me to come and hunt with him on his land. This may not sound very special, but he has 300 ha. :shock: He has the biggest property in the region. :wave: Only thing I must do for him, is set some traps up and help take care of his deer, etc. :super:

What does this license allow you to do? Does it just allow you to kill game or does it license you to carry a weapon for hunting?

It's a license that allows me to kill game and carry guns etc. As long as there's a trained dog and a person over 18 with me.

Ah.. cheers for that. Over here in the UK a license to kill game is just that.... allows you to kill game.... it does not allow you to carry a gun etc.... you need other licenses (firearms certificate for example) for that.

our government makes me laugh a lot these days

actually your law makes more sense to me, an injured animal disappears into the woods, so you need a dog to find it and put it out of pain as quick as possible

i am sure you are gonna enjoy it, another wonderful opportunity to be close to nature and to interact with it

It's not like that. It's because the game must be found and retrieved before it runs from you, with shots in it. :roll: For example if you shot a rabbit. Then my dog must be trained to go and find it.

Just to clarify....the government hasn't banned hunting with dogs in the way mentioned below, gun dogs will still be used on grouse shoots etc to collect killed and injured birds. What they have banned is the use of hounds to run down the pray in the first place as in fox hunting.

I'm not even going to start on the rights and wrongs of governement legislation (regardless of political leaning) or I'll get into the "How come we're the most famous archery country in the world...Robin Hood, Agincourt etc and yet we're the one's not allowed to hunt with any type of bow"....ahhh, drifting off subject!

Could you tell us a bit more about getting a license in Denmark? I am currently enrolled in the (intensive) hunting course here in The Netherlands and it takes about a year to complete. After that you can become a hunter only if you own or have legit access to 40ha of land and have a clean sheet regarding criminal activities..

Hi Viking,
cool to hear that you are too working on your hunting liccence. I am at the moment in class too. We here in Sweden I have to study 3 books. One book include everything about animals, hunting, weapons, amounition, envirmental protection, how to teach hunting dogs, history and a lot more. After I worked through the 3 books I can ask to be tested. I will have to do a theoretical test and several practical tests. After I manage I can go hunting freely without being a owner of my own land. The only thing I have to do is to respect the law shooting only in the right time and the animals which are not protected by law. We too have to get access to a retriver within one hour
to find the animal which got wounded.

In Denmark you have to be 16 to take the test. But you're allowed to take class whatever your age is.

When one go hunting, one must have a trained dog with him/her to retrieve the animal. If one is under 18 years of age, one must have one with him who is over 18.

We get a study book and then study in classes and at home. About 60 hours of lessons. The cost is about 140£ (1400 danish crowns) and that include lessons and a study book.

Well yes, but i don't know how often. But it's not often! My dad will pay the license if I lift my hand and thereby say more in school and do me homework (not that i don't ), until christmas. :shock:

I had a norwegian guy on a bowhunters course (IBEP = International Bowhunters Education Program) that I was instructing a couple of years ago. He works in some European Space Program in the Netherlands, and told me that you have some pretty stiff requirements to be able to hunt at your place Emile ?
