You can shoot them just like a regular bow with no problems. Just spine the arrow correctly to match the bow and away you go.
OR, you could practice ripping your thumb-nail of using the thumb draw technique. You can use a thumb ring, but it might still hurt... The thumb draw has the advantage that you can be bouncing along on your horse and your arrow is firmly locked onto your bow hand as you draw and loose. If you are not shooting from horse back and don't fancy persisting with the thumb draw just shoot as you would any other bow.
