How do you make your leather cordage ?

i,ve been trying to make some leather cordage which i dont think is great ,how do you make it ? i like the round braid ,is this harder ?

Never been really successful so I wimp out and buy it.

I use a four plait round,I have a great book that an aussie mate of mine gave me and it is great! It has full tutorials of how to make these cordages in 4 and sometimes even 16 plaits, it is great fun if you have the time to do it; you also need to have decent bits of leather, I was using crappy bits cheap leather off ebay and he recommend kangaroo strips that are really strong (very pricey though). I just use the same as natural cordage - thigh rolling!

Theres a few good books around, the one I have is "Braiding fine leather" by David W Morgan Not only does it explain the various braiding techniques, it also discusses the various sections on a hide, where the best "bits" are for lace and cutting it.
