it's a bit unusual to find so many that size at the same time-that looks like a willow? thats normally the species I find them on, often that size but never so many.

I live in the northern USA. They will get very large indeed, but usually are maybe 4 to 5 inches wide. I have seen them 12-inches and though unusual are not exceedingly rare either.
