My father heats his house entirely by wood or coal. The winter before last I became genuinely concerned for his well-being because the local coal man started getting snarky about (of all things for a coal man to complain about) delivering coal! You'd think people wanting to buy more fuel when the weather got bad would be part of the job, but from the put-upon grumpiness he exuded apparently his customers were a terrible imposition, and they'd get their coal when he was good and ready to deliver it.
This year I found a bulk deal online from B&Q:

This works out at half the cost of Mr. Snarky coal man per kilo, with none of the lip. We took delivery of the pallet today and I can confirm it is real coal, not some pretend stuff. My dad reckons a metric tonne should see him all the way through to spring.
