The top one (cherry handle) is in the video. The bottom one (alder handle) hasnt been honed up yet.

Late last evening I had a try out with the first of my new haida style carving knives.
This is a short video of one of 4 of the new tools. I used Haida-style blades from Crescent Knifeworks, attached to alder, beech or cherry wood handles with epoxy and seine twine. I honed this one up already with emory and red rouge compound on leather. I've only used it for less than an hour, but already I love it....The blade is very strong and very well designed. I can get the same type of cuts as with a mora hook, but with a lot less strain and stress, and with far more reach and precision. Dont get me wrong, the moras are great little hook knives and have served me well for several years. But this blade and the way it cuts is a real innovation to me. Its great for reaching in under the rim to start that reversing form, using delicate little sweeps and twists. It also is excellent to remove circular layers inside (like removing layers of an onion, one at a time) cutting in a similar fashion to a hooked lathe tool on turned bowls. The fact that it cuts forwards or backwards is a real plus. And it just glides through the wood (fresh beech in this case) carving alder with this knife is going to be awesome....
