Does any one know where you can get brewers pitch from ?
I've seen it mentioned that La Prevo sell it or used to sell it, but can't see it on their web site....

Cheers Bardster, that looks a very good site - straight to the favorites list.
You guessed what i want it for then :D (just not for leather though - i saw something in the Mary Rose museum that i'd like to try, and i've already got the leather jack anyway :) ) I might try the bees wax as well though ibn the interests of experimentation ;)

Google found this for me:

From the description, it looks like the pine resin based pitch that has been mentioned in leatherworking discussions a few times (making wineskins, or canteens, or jacks, I seem to remember).

LePrevo don't sell it anymore. I was told that EEC rules prevent it being sold in this country now. Aparently it can't be told apart from builder's pitch (tar), so it can't be sold for food containers. I asked the guy at LePrevo what the difference between brewers and builders pitch was and he just shrugged and said "no difference as far as I know, but I didn't tell you that".

Make of that what you will.

~Will do MBM, should have thought to ask the resident leather expert !!

Out of interest Eric, would that have precluded the sale of items made with brewers pitch ? There must be a couple of museums selling illegal good's if that were the case ?
