GB vs Wetterling is an evaluation between the GB small forest axe and the Wetterlings large hunter axe. So, not quite what you are looking for, but it does give some insight into one man's opinion of the two makes.

The two you are looking at are similar, but might feel and handle differently. The GB being 13" overall with a 1# head and a cutting edge of 3", is longer by 1/2", but 1/2# less in weight and has 1/2" more cutting edge than the Wetterling small hunting axe. Handle differences and the grinds/bevels on the axes could be different enough that one could out perform the other. Again, probably just a matter of opinion, depending on the user's likes and dislikes.

Wolf, I thought the SFA was bigger than I needed/wanted too. However, it actually weighs little more than the wildlife hatchet, and it will fit inside my 45litre sac if necessary. In the end I bought the SFA and looking back i'm happy I made the right decision.

If you get a chance to handle the two side by side you will see what I mean.

The SFA is about 1/2 pound heavier (overall) than the Wildlife hatchet (just weighed em both on me kitchen scales). I think that's quite a lot.

Doesnt it all depend on what you want it for though? The SFA is certainlyt capable of some serious work, but I think the Wildlife is actually better for making firewood and other "smaller" jobs.

Get em both - then take the one that suits what you will be doing. :)
