I am on the look out ( not yet ) for a G.M.C. CCKW353 - US WW11 Troop Carrier. In top condition.

One for the LR men, what is the current price for a 109 Diesel, with O/D and preferable a Truck Cab, with MOT and doesn't have to be Tax exempt

Cheers.

Jack.

Jack,

I'd be surprised if you couldn't pick up a diesel 109 for about £1500 in pretty fair condition, that is chassis and bulkhead wise. The overdrive mught be a bit harder, thet have become quite sought after these days.
There is a company called something like P A Blanchard that do a lot of MoD disposal stuff, they might be able to help, otherwise check the forums of the specialist mag like Land Rover Owner International of Land Rover Entusiast.

Thanks Dave.

I have had 9 LR in my time from a S3 up to a Range Rover before I went over to Toyota and that was some years ago now so I am pretty much out of the loop on pricing. I have to replace my Toyota and I fancy having a 109 again as I used to take the roof and the door tops of and have the windscreen down throughout the summer........and I used to wear spitfire goggles. That was fun!

Dave's right - £1500 max will get you a reasonable machine. And as he also says, overdrive could be a problems and you might be better buying one that you come across and possibly adding it later ...

There's no way I'd take the top off out 109 - it would never been rain-proof ever again!!! However, I'm sure that you'd look cool driving around like that!

Thanks Adi.

And as you know, if you have a LR then you have leaks anyway, and drafts, and noise and bills and stress and a humour failure and no friends, wife, indeed, no life!!
I am sure I look more of a prat then cool..........but it was fun.

I don't actually find landies that bad ... but I think that had something to do with the fact that when I was young I spent a LOT of time taking marinas, minis and maxis apart ...

The noise if something to get used to though ... imagine a trip from wales to John O'Grotes, then to Land's End before heading back to Wales ... ... my hearing's never been the same since :-D
