So guys my first kuksa arrived ! I thought it would be a little bit bigger but overall I love it !
two questions: as you see on the picture a little amount of coffee came out on one place , are they all like that or is this one not good ?
second how do I know if it is oiled ? should I oil it ? how will olive oil work ?
Thanks

Looks like it needs oiled. if you have bought it, it should have come ready oiled and should not be soaking the liquid into the wood. You will find that your coffee will have stained the kuksa it's self now.

It's not unusual for the Kuksa to leak like that. From the picture it looks unsealed. Avoid olive oil, as it tends to go rancid. Boiled linseed oil or Walnut oil are both good, and some people boil the Kuksa in milk.

I think it's the other way round. Boiled linseed oil dries quicker. It has heavy metal driers in it.

Raw linseed oil is food safe. Have you every drunk raw linseed oil? It's not really that tastey and it tastes the coffee for quite a while.

Asda/Tesco sell walnut oil and it's much more palatable. You can use it in salads.

You might want to think about dunking the kuksa in a brew of coffee and that might colour it all the same. Hope that helps a little.

You are 100% correct, my apologies for the duff information i just checked my books and it is definitely the raw linseed oil that is safe and boiled is not

Oh I get it wrong lots of times!!! I commented on a post recently re sucker type plants growing clockwise around hazel sticks. Guess what:) It's apparently anti-clockwise!!

Thanks guys I asked in many places and boiled linseed oil is very difficult to find here but raw is in many shops.

I believe that the different between normal linseed oil and boiled linseed oil is that the boiled one is not really boiled bu somehow chemically treated.
For my kuksa and spoons i use Danish Tung Oil. Thats good grade oil and leaves a hard surface with no taste.

A silver coin in the bottom covered in black coffee until you can't see the coin. Then moonshine until you can see it again.

Drink!! That's the inside seasoned!!!
