Thanks, mates! I get the forging bug now and then, but find working with wood more relaxing.
Here are a few process pics of the cross. They are quite easy to make. First you make three cuts in a piece of steel that is square in cross-section. I cut these with a hacksaw. (You can see that two of the cuts overlap a little. This becomes the hole in the middle of the cross.) Then with the forge you just open it up and flatten it. The shots below just show different perspectives of the piece as you start to open it.
