On the regular dog walking route this morning and saw this golden gift off the path! I'll keep an eye on it and take a little cut in a few days.

I wouldn't say it's rare per se. But when people find them they come across them quite suddenly and it's a nice surprise.

There's a big one that comes out every year on a yew stump where I work. It looks slightly unreal. Other than that I've rarely ever seen them. Perhaps the woodland around here doesn't suit them, most of it being chestnut coppice.

You probably do know this but maybe good to avoid that one as on Yew.

I had a spot at Chatsworth where there is a group of old gnarly oaks that looked like they came straight out of a Tolkien book.
Every other tree had it growing on it, some were huge, I harvested as much as I could carry on several trips year on year, then one year I turned up and there were a team of grounds keepers removing it all .
The next year there was none, I think they keep on top of it now, I know it kills the trees but that was my spot and I miss it and so do the people who I gave it too!
