Chopping Block

Hi guys a bit of an unusual question

I have managed to find a fallen tree and would like to cut out a chopping block from it to use as a small table, stool and obviously chopping and splitting wood.

Would it be best to use a knotted section or where grain is nice and straight?

Also any suggestions how to preserve it so it lasts longer and does not rot or split as easy?

Thanks. :D

Just simple pine I’m afraid nothing fancy

Its only a small tree but the base is quite thick so it may be useful for a small stool, working bench or stump thingy

The best bet is to keep it dry when not in use - garden shed, garage, spare room - that sort of thing.

Pine will work as a chopping block, but will wear faster than hardwoods.

Cheers
