I got mine from ASDA for about the same price - I guess they're pretty similar.

The blade is really thin but it seems to do the job, you just have to remember to cut on the pull stroke. It's OK for occasional use, but you do get the impression the blade is going to snap or bend in half at any moment - I think if I was relying on it I'd splash out on something more substantial.

I've also got a folding bow saw which is very handy. It was about £10, I'll dig out the link if anyone's interested.

John,

link would be great as I have misplaced my cheapie saw and looking to get another - was thinking about the Lidl one.

Cheers

It might be worth having a look at one of these then - I didn't get one out of the packet, but the blade looked fairly substantial. Perhaps if someone gets one, they'll post on its quality?

i've been using one of the lidl saws for a while now. It cuts clean sections through 4" seasoned beech without any problems.

will pick up another couple when I see them next.

Thanks for the info. I'm interested in getting one of these saws too. Drove past a Lidl today and had my mind on so many other things that I forgot to drop in.

i had a right chore trying to cut through a 3" diameter piece of green elder the other day...i was sweating cobs by the time i got through it!

the handle locks open and closed and seems pretty sturdy but i think its too curved and the blade is too short for effective cutting.

I've had one of these for some time - the blade on mine is definitely sturdier than the Laplander (I've bent the Laplander blade in use but never the Lidl).

 !!

i think i'll just get a bow saw

I mentioned earlier a folding bow saw I have:

TFAS521.jpg

I got it from Addlestone Army Surplus, it's only £12, lightweight aluminium frame and a 21" blade. It packs down nice and small with the blade safely tucked away inside.

I've not used it a lot, but it seems pretty good, although I wouldn't say the blade was great - but I think 21" is a pretty standard size so I'm sure you'd be able to fit a better one :)

Get one here (lots of other good kit as well) :
