Have you ever tried using one? They are amazing and a real joy to use, like having a scrub plane on a stick, only you see the cut as it happens. Very quick and efficient. This wood is chestnut, split 2 years ago from a massive clear log, so its quite dry. I am sure with practice it will be quite possible to acheive a fine regular patterned finish in rows or lines like on Haida canoes.

Not seen one quite like that but am very familiar with the larger tool that timber framers call a slick.
