Whilst on the subject, we aren't in the season to tap it yet are we? My kids loved tapping the low branches of the birch in our garden but we were late last year so only got a bit.

The Kidneys snd Liver take care of the detoxing without any help.
But Birch sap is quite nice to drink in small doses, refreshing. It contains Xylitol, a kind of sugar alcohol. It actively prevents tooth decay, which the Finns discovered in the 1970's.
The main benefit to drink it when you are out trekking is that it has a laxative effect.
Birch leaves, specially young ones, have a diuretic effect when you brew tea with them.
