Birch bark sheaths

I have been playing about with Birch bark today. What a fabulous material to work with. Made these two sheaths for a couple of Frosts. One is going to a friend who made me an Ash paddle for my birthday.

how did you tie the bits wound round the main sheath ?
have you got any pics of the other side ?
im very interested in having a go myself

The technique is surprisingly simple and the sheaths look the same on the other side. Have a look here;

However, don't follow their sizing. I made the width 1.5ins for the Frost.Let me know how you get on.

Wow thats a grate idea, grate link too. I just dug out a cereal packet from the recycling box and knocked one up myself, ridiculously easy! Unfortunately the card wasn't quite long enough but it still works.





I can't wait to get my hands on some burch bark, I found a dead standing tree last week. I'll have to see if it's still good enough to use.
