Fed up with havingto re-do the Nikwax wash-in treatment on an army smock and Bergans Morgedal, I bought in a 5L tin of Fabsil. A couple of days ago we had a break from the rain and full of good intentions I got everything in one place with the intention to brush it on to both smocks, same as I do on tents etc. When I considered how to actually do the job I realised just how messy it would be, and also how unlikely it'd be that I'd get enough on with a brush to adequately soak into seams, pocket materials etc., so I hit upon another idea.

I got two rubble sacks and put one smock in each, then having worked out how much each would need, poured the right amount into each of the bags and then squeezed out all the air and twisted the bags closed. I left them soaking for thirty six hours whilst giving them a bit of a "knead" now and then.

I got them out this morning and it's worked a treat; they've eachabsorbed fully the amount I put in, and I've hung them to dry. Just a few bits of dripping but negligible amounts, and not only does this mean there's none wasted but that the stuff doesn't go everywhere when you try to handle them. It's also penetrated into every nook and cranny in a way I'd never have achieved with a brush or a spray.

I thoroughly recommend this as a quick and convenient way to do this and achieve better results than any other method. I also use this to marinade stuff, works a treat :)
