I think any folder for Bushcraft use is a bit of a compromise. That said, I use my SAK for most things. Battoning's not something I'm inclined to try.

I just got one brand new from the bay of evilness! I've been after one of those old jack knifes for years, but I could never find a decent one for a decent price. I paid about ten quid to include P+P to BFPO.

Is that the clasp knife, spamel? I keep thinking about getting one of those, because they look realy solid, but keep thinking that there must be some reason that they're not more popular. Let us know how you get on with it.

for a good cheap folder i would recommend an opinal.

Had one for years and there're great little knives. I use mine as a backup to my woodlore but often gets carried along on short country walks when the fixed blade is left at home.

I have my grandfathers RAF Service Knife from during WW2 and also a very similar handled double folder of his.

Never use the Service knife but the other is used a lot.

My local surplus place has the latest army clasp knife for £8.99, if I remember rightly. New, they're normally about £25, which is over the top. Have a look in your local shop.
I'm not really sure how army surplus can get a reliable stock in which they can sell at a profit for £9
The current Army knives are made by JAdams of sheffield but I pay more then £9 for the dealers prices

Those clasp knives were marked with a decent sounding german manufacturer, whose name I can't remember off the top of my head. The guy said it was the current issue. They're that cheap becaus it's a shop in Hull, and it's always cheap here. Plus, the shop is run by a retired soldier, who seems to do it just to keep himself busy.

VERY nice mate - is it legal for EDC?
Sadly not as it locks.

If you want to include a locking folder then the blade length issue becomes void. There was a thread not that long ago in which Martyn showed a picture of a Al Mar Sere that had a 'folding woodlore' look about it, very nice :D

I agree about the U2, I got one recently and am impressed with it. A very unassuming yet capable knife. Nice and light too... Now if only they'd make a slipjoint version it would make a lovely little EDC ;)
