I've put up many a photo of trees, birds and mammals in the past. Well, in the last couple of days of photographing the Roe rut, my eye has been drawn increasingly to some of the insect life that the woods seem alive with. I find them strange, fascinating, often very alien in closeup.
Heres a few - some I know and some I don't
I think this may be one of the drone flies - not sure which but it was a fair old size
Fairly sure this is a green bottle. Beatifully iridescent creature
Clearly one of the wasps but I'm not sure which - probably just a common
This is a grey bush cricket - theres a larger picture in another thread
One of the many types of blue butterflies around here - I'm fairly sure this is a Holly Blue
This one is...I think..a Gatekeeper...still learning my butterflies though.....
Lastly a couple of insects that are amongst my favourites
The Southern Hawker dragonfly
I'm not sure about this one - could be a female Southern Hawker but - shrug - could be several others - couldn't get close enough for a good identifying shot. Camoflauge is good in the hawthorn though.
Anyway - thats about it - a few different shots from my normal Birds and Beasts
