anyone help?

I have a lovely canvas pack made by rugged river.
only complaint I have? I would like to be able to attach things to the top and bottom but it has no strap loops.
I'm after somethin in keeping with the pack but uncertain how to go about it.
any suggestions?

I have some canvas webbing lengths if they'd be of any use Sam....sew or rivet them on ? Would leather maybe look more 'right' though?

I ain't sure have confidence in my abilities to take needle to the pack,as rugged river are no longer selling packs.....

You could use rivets.

How easy is rivetting?
i would like some D rings so i could add or remove the straps as and when i required them which would prevent straps dangling about when not in use

I'd also go with rivetting AND sewing some leather on either to hold D'rings or "molle" style into which you can thread straps etc. The sewing will prevent the rivet pulling through and the rivet will hold the weight. If you mark and make the stitch holes in the leather first you're guaranteed it'll look neat, at least on the outside anyway.

rivet a couple of large leather dog collars onto the top and pottom,will gold bed rolls etc.

The leather dog collar idea cuts out fabricating the straps. Pre made, various sizes to choose from. Then just mark, and sew and rivet on.
Otherwise d loops with leather tabs, then just strap through them. Nice ideas.

Personally I think dog collars or 3mm veg tan is a bit OTT for the job. Thick Veg tanned leather can become quite stiff if it gets wet too.

That's why I suggested doing it molle style (then the straps can be whatever is convenient) - leather is good because it doesn't fray so doesn't need hemming like canvas.
