    Knife making help

I mark the lines out with a pair of oddlegs and then use a protractor to check the angle. No jig to file the bevels though, all done by hand and eye.

Big Cat sighting expected! In local news!

A neighbour found some huge 'cat like' paw prints in her garden last winter.

    Finishing Wood......now with images

Just going on past experience, I had to chuck a tin of Linseed because quite frankly, it stank to high heaven. Never had that problem with Tung oil.

    Finishing Wood......now with images

I like Tung oil, it doesn't go rancid like Linseed can.

    Hay box cooker

I plan to make one similar to the one here

    River Cottage Autum.

Seems to be better than the last few series where he was up himself a little too much. More like the original River Cottage series.

multi tool or SAK for bushcraft

I simply refuse to pay the rip-off UK prices for multi-tools. Leatherman, for instance, recently closed the door to UKers buying their stuff from the US and making massive savings.

Why isn't Ron Hood given enough Credit?

I have seen most of his dvds and think they are well worth watching.

    Why knifemaking?

I made knives when I was a young apprentice (engineer not jedi :) ) and I am giving it a go again after all these years. :)

Dowsing experiment - bushcraft members required

That million dollar prize has been available for a good while yet remains unclaimed. I wonder why? :)

    Tramontina machete(s)

Another thumbs up for bacons dozen. I bought my Mora Clipper and Tramontina machete from them along with other bits and bobs at other times. They are a good company to deal with plus the prices are pretty keen as well. £6 for the Clipper (red one with black grip), you'd do well to find it...

    Dowsing for water.

Indeed, but they only said that after they had attempted to find it. :)

    Dowsing for water.

Richard Dawkins had a bit on one of his programmes (probably on youtube) about dowsing. Basically they did a blind test to see if the dowsers could do what they claimed, unsurprisingly they couldn't. I rank it alongside horoscopes and other airy fairy nonsense. Fine for a bit of fun but I...

Advice for beginner - Fallkniven TK3

I have a Super Swede and a 30 odd year old Big Swede, they are both very nice knives.

Ray Mears - as off topic as you like :)

By all accounts he is a nice guy with a lot of interesting things to say. His television programmes are well put together (depsite all the hideous 'arty farty' stuff in the latest series) and his passion for the subjects comes across. As for his Woodcraft business, well it IS a business after...

    Paracord (where to get)

I bought 5 lengths from Endicotts and it's nice stuff. The only downside is that you are limited to 7.5M. Where do you get your 1.3mm stuff from fishy1? I've been looking for some stuff I can use with the kids over the summer.
