    Legality and Perception of EDC's

In what you could call inner city higher crime areas, policing might be called more intense. But it's difficult to see a valid reason to carry a bladed implement in those parts. I'm glad to say my connections there do not carry, (but have been mugged for their phones.)

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

The Police are not out to fit everyone up, they are trying to deter/prevent crime. There are a lot of people carrying knives as weapons, and likely to use them in an argument. They are under a lot of pressure, they are personally at risk, and have to make difficult, and sometimes wrong, quick...

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

Friend of mine went in and out of UKL to Poland with a small swiss army on their keys no problem numerous times, then last time Polish Border controls took it off them as they were leaving Poland. It's far more common in London, age is no protection, "SUS" rules might have gone but makes no...

This gives a bit more on good reasons to carry, vs not, incl a brief reference to an axe.

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

Apologies if I have misunderstood or mis-represented point A, my understanding is that although a perfectly legal carry, you might still have to justify it in circumstances such as going into a nightclub etc. The police catch question might be used where they might be frustrated at it being a...

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

Just seen two very informative You Tube videos by the Black Belt Lawyer on legal carry and replies to Police officers if you are carrying. One deals with knives, the second specifically with Leathermans/utility types. a) You have to have a valid reason for carrying it, even if it is a legal...

    Costal foraging laws and etiquette

Learnt a new word today "depuration" - means leaving the shellfish in freshwater for period of time to flush out toxins, already found out that it does not work for Norovirus in Oysters.

    Costal foraging laws and etiquette

Being curious and also dubious, I've sent an email to CEFAS, the Govt body responsible for monitoring such things, asking for an update/offical position, especially for the East/South/Southest coasts. They have a fairly alarming report about Norovirus in raw Oysters, from human sewage, so I'm...

Hi, I was unable to respond to Sandbag on the Group Buy page, sent him a pm instead, but he advised someone else with the same problem that it was because they were a new member and not yet been added to something or other. I've been a registered user for over a year now, can I be added now...

Andy Woods First Bushcraft Survival Sharp

Hah! didn't look at the date, my error. FYI Trend do 2 sorts of really light diamond sharpening plates that are light enough to backpack/glue onto say sheath and use in the field. https://trenddirectuk.com/trend-cr-dws-f4-fc-craftpro-folding-stone-f-c-4-inch.html...

Andy Woods First Bushcraft Survival Sharp

Would it work if some of that sheath ally be replaced with a bit of slightly projecting sharpening/stropping steel? might be easier to hold/use and free up the sheath rod space?

    Mini-Slingshot for nuts

The tree surgeons professional version is pretty neat but OTT for this. They use a sort of pendulum-shaped fabric sandbag on a light line and fire it up to the top of even tall trees, and thru foliage, using a strong Butterfly catapult. Friend of mine showed me how he sometimes stretches his...

Speed hooks and Yoyo reals are legal in UK

I've just seen the Gov.uk site guidance on takle etc permitted - nearly all of my old kit is now banned - knotted keepnets, gaff hooks etc. No mention of rods though, only their max distance apart and not to be left alone.

aluminium water bottles for carrying fuel?!

I've used an aluminium Sigg for mebbe 20 years for petrol for my MSR, no problems. Now I use a varnished or one, no problems on that either. If necessary I can change the washer for a nylon or a fibre one. Having the same aversion to aluminium, before using the plain one I did however, give...

    Mini-Slingshot for nuts

I had to bring down some branches recently using a 16mm rope, similar sort of height - after unsuccessful trys to hand throw it I used a couple of foot of batten as a makeshift atal. couple of tries and it went over each branch fine - had a car towing hook as the weight, then shake the rope...

Tent/Hooped Bivi Poles For Poncho Shelter

Why not make a simple plowpoint shelter with your poncho and a walking stick/pole with a guy line off the pole? two or three pegs on the other poncho corners and your done, with a lot more headroom than if you try to make a curve. I make veg patch mesh covers using flexible plastic plumbing...

    Beekeeping for beginners

Poor article that, based purely on a big city-centric viewpoint and incomplete research. Lack of suitable nesting sites for wild bees is a much bigger issue in built up areas. The easiest, most natural and by far cheapest way to do beekeeping is using homemade top bar hives, preferably with...
