Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

Wow, you are a minefield of information. We are planning to buy something for sharpening, possibly the sharpmaker or more likely a cheaper alternative by Lansky. He has spent time learning to sharpen some of his cheaper knifes with an opinel stone but I don't want him using that on th ukpk as...

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

At the start of your post, you mention the ukpk in both the g10/s30v and frn/s110v iteration. My son is set on the ukpk and was wanting th HH g10 version which is unfortunately out of stock and according to the website will not be available until much later in the year. The s110v is a step up in...

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

Thank you. I am ordering him the UKPK tonight. I will probably have a look at some of the other options that have been mentioned on this thread for myself too. The Lionel Steel Thrill looks stunning. A step up from my edc, an opinel 6 with olive wood handle.

Absolutely, thank you so much for all of your advice. The good advice has been taken on board and the bad advice/life coaches/off topic suggestions have been used largely for entertainment. Have a good day, stay safe, enjoy the good weather.

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

I do think though that it is our responsibility to help responsible teens learn about knives as tools as early as possible. I applaud Telemarkmike's efforts here and wish him the best. He is swimming against the tide, even within this community. Thank you for the support and words of...

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

Thank you for this. Couldn't agree more, what a informative and balanced response. It clarifies what I have been thinking and gives me more to mull over, mostly other quality knife options.

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

To clarify, I was meaning a knife that locked, and possibly a blade a touch over 3 inches. I was not meaning an illegal knife such as a flick knife, butterfly knife, zombie knife etc. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Thanks for all the varied and interesting replies. There is some great information to glean from what has been written. Sorry about the title, I wrote the question quickly without a huge amount of thought into the implications. To clarify, we live on the outskirts of Edinburgh, we are a...
