Why would you use case hardening these days anyway, especially for a knife? The only reason for case hardening is because you've got crap steel and can carburise the outer layer to make it harden or you really, really need a soft core. Remember if you sharpen it too much or regrind at all then...
I've found my hammock is most comfortable when it's a straight line when you hang it. I would lower your ropes but make them shorter for these trees. Ideally I would find trees that were a bit further apart. I use the ticket to the moon hammock system though. So it's very easy to adjust to...
