Camping in Arctic Sweden 2017 pic heavey

On another note, does anyone know where I can hire snowboots? I'm going in 2018 on a guided expedition so I'll be okay as a newbie but the gear prices make me weep. Need all the clothing, sleeping bag and shovel.... Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I did pretty well this year! Uncle got me bunch of outdoorsy gimmicks that I love to try and hate to buy - micro towel, freeze dried space food, etc. and a Zippo handwarmer (I really like this one) which has been nice on the cold winters xmas walks. That, a slow cooker, and a ton of booze...

It was already special to me as my dad gave it to me 15 years ago as an Xmas present when I first got into bushcraft. I watched all of his programmes and to finally meet the man was a surprising turn of events! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

He did sign it! He was actually very friendly despite the chore of signing books, and not in any way dismissive of people, despite also most of the people there very obviously not being outdoors types.

Group might find that handy if we do a bow drill day. I light a fire every day this season now so the magic has very much gone haha firelighters and house coal for me! When I get outdoors, that's when it's starts :) Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

By the way everyone, I had about 2 carrier bags of old t-shirts that were no good for anything not even a clothes bank. I making a silly amount of char cloth in my woodburner on the boat, so if anyone wants some, let me know. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

Wisbech isn't far from me. There is a piece of woodland nearby Isleham - I plan on finding out who the owner is and asking to walk around it at some point. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I know this! I think it's having the hours to go out and find some suitable dry wood... You gave me a bow drill once upon a time in a carrier bag, ready, on a plate to study! What's wrong with me? That said, there is not even a tree to hammock in, in the Fens, and the ground is too boggy to...

Billy no mates my ****. Good one on the bowdrill, I haven't even found the time or effort to try yet. I guess I'm too afraid of failure, as fire by friction seems like the benchmark for bushcraft excellence! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

Thanks for the offer but I'm after something in the 10-30 quid range. I found something that takes my fancy but haven't been able to question the supplier as they are on holiday for 2 weeks! Got my benchmade last week for my birthday. Love it! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

    mid-high end folding knives

I just don't like the pocket clip, all pocket clips I have ever had make the knife very uncomfortable to me. The only knife I have forgiven that with is the Kershaw half ton as its so cheap I wouldn't cry over losing it, I can beat on it and open bottles with it and it's small enough so a pocket...

Dave Canterbury style full tang knife

Yup. Awesome tool. Especially for gardening. I gave it some attention with 800 and 1200 grit and linseed oil and it's perfect for hacking away and beating on. I found the best thing to sharpen/fix it is a good quality oregon chainsaw file Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

    mid-high end folding knives

Update for all: I received my benchmade 940. It was on first impressions very different in a lot of ways. All of them good ones. I'm on my phone so I can't tell you about them all but let this at least suffice for now: I am in love The way it works. Maybe I need to try some other nice knives...

Hi mate, can you provide links for dozy old me? I looked for them but couldn't find what I was after! I found one on HH that look alright, it was only 2mm thick but might do the job....
