Stove update on investigation previous owners had tried running it on paraffin. Windshield has been sorted and the paraffin flushed out.
It now works very well just got to sort out some pot supports and will be ready to go.
Visited the High Weald Steam Working Weekend Show and was a cracking event. On the way out I spotted a battered Svea 123r stove in amongst the rusty spanner etc on a stall.

Re snuffing fire I use a cheap camping mug from charity shop. Knocks the fire down, embers keep glowing and you can nearly always blow them back to life for a coffee top up :campfire:
Grew up there mate, moved away in 1986. WW1 relic sounds interesting, always cool when you find something like that when out and about. Hope your local woods are not being affected by all the road and building proposals in that area
