Thanks for the advice guys. If conditions are bad we will do the horseshoe missing out Crib Goch. Anyway, I will make another post on here letting you know how we got on when I get back, hopefully with some good pictures :)
My friend and I are going to do the Snowdon Horseshoe next weekend. We have appropriate gear, clothing and shoes etc. are both fit, have done long hikes before, and can navigate well.
Neither of us have any experience scrambling though, and I was wondering if someone could give me a rough...
Hi :)
My friend and I are looking to find a group to do some bushcraft overnights/weekends. Anyone planning anything like this soon?
We should be able to get to most areas in Norfolk and are happy to pay money towards the landowner etc.
I also spoke to someone on a meet recently who...
I'm currently trying to get better at making feather sticks. I have no problem getting the really small fine curls which ignite easily.
However, I am pretty terrible at making the big long pieces with lots of curls which should make make up the main part of the bundle and act as a longer...
Really good idea. I just made my own list of 12 things to do/learn in 2016 (one a month):
1. Make some moccasins from a deer hide I have tanned myself.
2. Sleep in a natural shelter.
3. Learn to make consistently good feather sticks.
4. Make a primitive bow drill (includes learning to make...
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me in my search for my ideal waterproof jacket :)
Specifications are as follows...
- Highly waterproof (at least 20,000mm, although preferably more).
- Water proof zips.
- Highly breathable (at least 20,000g).
- Good ventilation (pit zips...
Are you sure about this? Surely there wouldn't be that amount of concentration of bacteria in a large body of water than there would be on a raw supermarket chicken? I also remember reading somewhere that the quantity of water consumed was a big factor in the likelihood of getting ill?
Ah of course, I don't know why I didn't think of that! Thanks :)
So is taste the only method of finding out then? Are there any other tests, or things I can look for?
I'm planning to walk the Norfolk Coastal Path trail in a couple of weeks and had a couple questions about brackish water...
1) How do you tell if water is brackish? Is there much risk of getting a water borne illness by tasting a bit before purifying, and then spitting it out? What about...
Sorry if this is a stupid question... I've been searching google but am still a bit confused due to varying answers.
I'm going beach fishing for the first time fairly soon. I'll be using a 12ft beach caster and spinning reel.
How much shock leader I should attach to the main line? Most...
That's a massive area! Anywhere you could recommend as a rough starting point in NWT? Not looking for a specific location, just want to narrow my search down a little bit :)
Or is it just a case of look for a remote place with forest and lakes and I should be able to find something?
Cheers
I love the idea of living in the outback, it seems like a beautiful place, but I am terrible with heat and that would just be too much for me! I've been struggling with this British summer and it's not even that hot lol. Maybe I could adjust though...
Ideally I'm looking for a Boreal forest...
I don't think they were that interested in my skills at all lol. Most of the questions were about my personality... Do you argue a lot, are you a team player or a loner, what are your other interests in life etc...
I actually applied for Season 1, got a phone interview but then didn't hear anything back so I guess I'm not the sort of person they are looking for :P
As I have already said in my original post, I'm not looking for a place to go in the UK, I'm looking where to go in the world, the first place I mentioned having looked at was Sweden.
But you have said you do need to use them... are you regularly in survival situations then?
Let me ask you some questions... Are you sitting on a chair? Are you in a room with walls? Are you looking at a computer screen? A phone? Where do you think the materials from these things comes from...
