Able to keep me dry and warm in heavy rain ideally, but not be so warm that it's unwearable in anything but winter temperatures. Regards the level of waterproofing - not sure how to answer that, I've seen a video of a guy in a Rivers Wild jacket where they stood him underneath a fire engine...
